Outreach is a key element of the Alliance mission. Consider volunteering your time with one of these worthwhile activities or in support of our outreach efforts with a financial donation of any amount. Your gift is completely tax-deductible! Thank you for your generosity!
The Arizona Art Alliance teams with our member organizations to provide art instruction, supplies, materials, and monetary donations to help develop and implement local art education outreach programs. Incredibly, from our inception in 2000 through 2009, we logged over 91,564 volunteer hours from over 1,500 volunteers contributing a total of $1,644,489 in (volunteer dollar/hrs). These Outreach Programs, by which we extend our knowledge and love of art to those less fortunate, are funded entirely by the artists themselves, a portion of our gallery sales, and the voluntary contributions of corporations who share our vision. To become involved, please contact one of our program managers listed below or our Community Outreach Direct, Mike Brady at mkyfin@cox.net
Extra Special Art
Art programs are unique in motivating and aiding in the positive development of children and adults with special challenges. The Desert Artists Extra Special Art Program is a volunteer-run program that offers art classes to students with special needs in local public schools. This ongoing program has been working with children with physical and mental challenges in Life Skills Classes for over 10 years. For more information, contact Lee Anne Park: leeanne@leeannepark.com
Caring Thru Art
Caring Thru Art was developed for the seniors, disabled, and Alzheimer residents of Life Care of Paradise Valley in Phoenix in partnership with Desert Sage Artists. Volunteers teach watercolor painting in an attempt to provide better quality of life for the residents. For more information, contact Vince Valicenti: valvince@aol.com
Spirit of Art
Paradise Valley Art League adopted “Valley Life” and their art program since no funding – private or otherwise – was covering art teachers and art supplies. The program is an integral part of helping physically and mentally challenged clients to express their feelings and feed their creative instincts. Valley Life was formerly known as Valley of the Sun School and Habilitation Center. For more information, contact Erika Y. Schafer: 602.789.1902
Art League West
Opportunity House
Children love painting and gluing and cutting. Each summer volunteers from Art League West share their expertise and assist third through sixth grade children in a once–a–week free art class at Opportunity House in Avondale. The opportunity for children to learn from working artists makes this summer program much more rewarding to the participating children. For more information, contact Nancy Hampton: nancy.hampton@cox.net
A New Beginning
Originally developed by Alliance member Kelley Smith, this art program for at risk children is funded and managed by the Arizona Art Alliance. To date there have been two completed programs; at Eagle Point School facility for incarcerated boys in Buckeye, and at the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections Adobe Mountain School in Phoenix, Arizona. The newest art outreach program that will start in January 2011, is headed by Glenn Mire, and will teach at-risk high school students at the Starshine Academy in Phoenix, basic photography skills and art expression/creation with the camera. Glenn Mire is a working photographer who understands how giving back to the community enriches the lives of everyone involved. The Arizona Art Alliance is fortunate to have him as our newest program director. For more information, contact Glenn Mire at glenn@mireimages.com
